YA Gotta Read This! is a grassroots effort to reach reluctant readers and amplify Black voices, centering young adult authors and Black boys, ages 13 through 17.

Join us for a celebration of Black writers through the healing power of art, reading recommendations, author visits, book talks, and brotherhood. We’re here to foster Black librarianship and encourage Black bookstores to adopt the YA Gotta Read This Book framework.

Our story

The YA Gotta Read This! Book Club emerged from the ethos of a Shake Up Your Shelves Challenge. Heeding to the aesthetics of the African American Read-In, the bi-monthly book club is perfectly positioned to engage readers and create a bigger audience for Black authors.

To change the narrative and proudly state “Black Boys Read Too,” the invitational book club for Black boys doubles as a peer-to-peer reader’s advisory platform – uniting students, librarians, educators, bookstores, and dignitaries across multiple jurisdictions.
